The glitz and big hits of a Dream11 Super Smash doubleheader are coming to Palmerston North for the first time!
Fitzherbert Park, New Plymouth's iconic Pukekura Park and floodlit Napier stadium McLean Park are the three home venues for the Central Hinds and Stags in their 2021/22 T20 campaign wth Super Smash action returning to Fitzy Park for the first time January 2018 (women) and February 2009 (men).
It will be just the Central Stags' second T20 at their Manawatū home ground so with tickets already on sale today, the message to Manawatū locals is to get in quick for this showcase event on 27 December - a holiday season highlight just after Christmas.
“We’re excited already about it,” said Central Hind JESS WATKIN.
“Manawatū has been one of our regular homes in the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield and we’re very familiar with Fitzherbert Park, but to be able to play Dream11 Super Smash - with all the excitement and atmosphere of a televised game, and in front of my home crowd, is just brilliant.”
The Stags and Hinds will open their home season together on the opposite side of the coast in Hawke's Bay, on Saturday 18 December with a free admission doubleheader and the Stags playing under lights. To attend, pre-registration is essential so simply go to the tickets website, select the game and follow the prompts to pre-register your attendance.
The last three home doubleheaders ahead of Finals will unfurl at Pukekura Park with the traditional back-to-back match days on 30 December and New Year's Eve, before the teams return on 8 January. New Plymouth's free admission Festival of Lights will be on right next door in Pukekura Park after all three matches, making for a bumper day out with family and friends.
Our teams will also be playing away matches together in Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Wellington and Mount Maunganui ahead with all 64 matches broadcast live on Spark Sport, and 40 of those matches also broadcast free-to-air by TVNZ One or Duke.
This season's edition of the Dream11 Super Smash has a weekend focus, with matches predominantly played on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and across the Christmas holiday window at key summer locations, with some Ford Trophy matches sprinkled in between.
NZC chief executive David White said he was delighted to be in a position to announce the schedule for the 2021/22 summer, given the difficulties of the current COVID-19 environment.
“It’s taken a little longer to confirm the arrangements, but it’s certainly been worth the wait – with more men’s and women’s domestic matches to be screened live on Spark Sport and TVNZ than ever before,” White said.
Nine weeks of big-hitting, fearless and fast-paced action will sort out the six men’s and six women’s teams as they battle for a spot in the Finals, with the sudden death Elimination (2v3) Finals set for Thursday, 27 January, and the 2022 Dream11 Super Smash Grand Final inked in for Saturday, 29 January.
Head of Spark Sport, Jeff Latch, said he was looking forward to another exciting summer of cricket in Aotearoa.
“As the home of NZC content, Spark Sport is bringing Kiwis live coverage of all 64 matches of the Super Smash season this summer, as well as an exciting international line-up to be announced in the coming weeks.
