This afternoon’s T20 clash with Canterbury was a top of the table number, the winner guaranteed to take the the lead into a big day tomorrow in Lincoln.
Canterbury had made a great start to the tournament, but CD had been swiftly been playing catch-up by the time the two sides met today, Canterbury captain Missy Banks sending CD in after winning the toss.
Despite the early loss of Margot Scoular, fellow opener Ocean Bartlett got CD off to a solid start with the bat, her top score of 38 at near run-a-ball pace.
Bartlett was run out in the 17th over at 99/3, but Ashtuti Kumar (35 off 42) kept the momentum going after their 61-run stand together, CD eventually reaching 130 for five after some quick late hits from Kate Gaging and Gemma Sims.
CD then bowled, caught and fielded superbly to keep Canterbury well in check in the chase.
Harriet Graham was run out in the second over by Jess Ogden who had joined the squad following an injury to captain Monique Rees.
Ogden (2-16) then took care of the next two Canterbury wickets as well, two more cheap top order departures having the hosts rattled at 22 for three.
Next it was Kate Sims’s turn, picking up 2-12 with the middle order, including the wicket of Banks.
Kumar (3-6 off three overs) then picked up her first in the 12th over and struck twice in the space of three balls in the 14th to have Canterbury feeling the pressure at 58 for eight.
Not to be left out, Scoular (2-13) wrapped up the final two wickets for her brace and a big 58-run, with a full three overs to spare.

CD had also lost the toss in the first game of the day, but being asked to field first by Auckland proved to be no disadvantage as CD restricted the Aucklanders to just 102 for six, the wickets shared around the attack and CD again turning heads with their fierce fielding effort.
Margot Scoular (24) and Ocean Bartlett then put on 44 for the first wicket to get CD well underway in the chase, Central reaching their target seven wickets down but with seven balls to spare for an key and ultimately comfortable three-wicket win.

One-Day Round Four
21 December 2019
CD U19 continued to make headway with a well controlled win over their Wellington counterparts in the last of the one-day rounds.
After CD captain Monique Rees had won the toss and sent Wellington in on Bert Sutcliffe Oval, the Central women made a great start, Saffron Wilson bowling Jamie Mason-Jones in the first over of the day.
A runout soon had both openers back in the hutch, leaving Wellington with an early recovery job on their hands.
First drop Georgia Plimmer began to find the fence and had made a good start on 23 after almost an hour in the middle before Central Hind Rees when on a wicket spree through the middle order, picking up wickets in the 15th, 17th and 19th overs.
Wellington captain Beth Molony now had a big job in front of her and she managed to hold on, and then settle in, for a top score of 39.
She struggled for support, however, the wickets continuing to fall until Wellington was all out for 141 in just the 34th over, Rees walking off the park with 3-17 off her six and Ocean Bartlett picking up a cheap brace.
Wellington Blaze's Xara Jetly got a big early wicket in reply with Margot Scoular stumped early, and Moloney rejoiced in removing dangerous young Ashtuti Kumar on just 10.
Opener Gemma Sims was still there, however, at 31 for two and would carry her bat through to the winning runs in the 39th over for a patient unbeaten 47*.
Wilson provided the balance of a match-winning, unbroken 111-run stand for the third wicket with a top score of 63* in the clinical eight-wicket victory that helped CD stay in a useful second spot on the table ahead of the T20s.
