South African Aldin Smith has been appointed as head coach of Nelson Cricket. A Level 3 qualified coach, Smith will arrive in Nelson with an impressive CV, having spent 5 years at the Internationally regarded Tuks Cricket Academy at the University of Pretoria. At Tuks Aldin has been the Academy Coordinator, overseeing the Junior and Senior Academy. Coach of the Senior Academy and a coach for Tuks 2 in the Elite Squad.
He said yesterday he was honoured to accept the appointment and was looking forward to involving himself in the Nelson, Central Districts and New Zealand Cricket system.
“Nelson is a beautiful part of New Zealand with a fantastic cricket history and world class facilities. I look forward to working with their players and developing future Black Caps!”.

Nelson Cricket General Manager David Leonard was delighted with the outcome. “We are very happy to to secure the services of Aldin to Nelson,” said Mr Leonard. “Aldin is young, skillful and passionate coach and will certainly add to our coaching expertise and provide a high level of coaching to the players in our region. His knowledge, passion and desire is very high.”
Mr Leonard said Nelson Cricket, with the assistance of Central Districts Cricket, had conducted an extensive and thorough recruitment process that attracted a number of high calibre candidates.
