With their first title since 2017/18, Manawatū has broken Hawke's Bay stranglehold on The Mike Shrimpton Trophy to cap a ground-breaking summer for the CDCA women's 40-over inter-District competition.
This summer had seen Nelson join The Mike Shrimpton Trophy for the first time, and it would be the Nelson Nyxons who hosted the decisive matches over the last weekend at Saxton Oval.
These were the first ever Shrimpton Trophy battles to be played at their stunning home ground, on 26 and 27 February 2022.
In a storybook finish to a rain-affected season that could not have gone much more to script, Manawatū was the visiting team for these last two games of the summer - having headed south still needing to do some work to clinch the title.
Ultimately, everything was left riding on the last game of the season.
In the first game on Saturday, Manawatū had been upset by six wickets, bowled out for 150 in 36 overs, with the Nyxons chasing down their target just four wickets down.
Central Hind KATE GAGING (64) and Scotland international PRIYANAZ CHATTERJI (40) were the heroines for the Nyxons, and it was one to savour: Nelson's first ever victory in The Mike Shrimpton Trophy, the perfect way to celebrate their first home match.
And so, it all boiled down to a do-or-die Sunday: the last game of the last round of the summer. Could strong Manawatū bounce back against the Nelson newbies?

You betcha. Manawatū turned the tables on Nelson by bowling them out for just 109 in 35.2 overs on the Sunday, and chasing down the win for the title in just 25.1 overs with seven wickets in hand.
CDCA congratulates Manawatū on winning the Mike Shrimpton Trophy for 2021/22 and all teams in a landmark season for our women's pathway.
