CD TRIO NAMED FOR NZ U19

JOEY FIELD

Nelson’s THOMAS ZOHRAB and HAWKE’S BAY’s JOEY FIELD, and WILL CLARK have all been named in the New Zealand Under 19 team to play Bangladesh in Canterbury later this month.

The visit by Bangladesh is another key step in preparations for the U19 World Cup in South Africa in the new year, after a squad that included Joey, Will and Ruben Love visited Queensland with an NZU19 squad earlier this year to play against Australia U19.

The 18-man squad to play Bangladesh will play five one-dayers at Lincoln’s Bert Sutcliffe Oval, spread over three weeks from September 29 until October 13.

NZ U19 Head Coach Paul Wiseman said that, along with assistants Graeme Aldridge and Adam Miles, he had a strong talent pool from which to choose, making for an extremely tough selection process.

“The U19s programme is very much about development, so we are looking to give as many players as possible a taste of international cricket,” Wiseman said.

“The upcoming matches against Bangladesh are an important series and a chance for meaningful, competitive cricket. "Our players are looking forward to a big season, culminating in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup early next year in South Africa.

“I’ve made it very clear to players not selected in this Bangladesh series that World Cup selection is far from locked in. We will be watching closely over the season, including the National U19 Tournament, before making our final selection calls for a touring squad to South Africa.”

NZ U19 will also tour South Africa to play Zimbabwe, India and South Africa in one-day games in early January, before the pinnacle event of the year — the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup, also in South Africa, starting for New Zealand on 18 January 2020.
