Central Stags Head Coach GLENN POCKNALL is heading to the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup on a coaching sabbatical with Cricket Scotland.
With the blessing of CD Cricket, it's Pocknall's second short off-season stint with Scotland Men - having also served as an assistant coach to the side during last winter's ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe.
Now, as the main show approaches in the Caribbean and USA, it's exciting times for both the male and female Scotland national teams who are both in the World Cup for the first time.
Both teams have a CD connection.
Pocknall will be on board as the men's Fielding Skills Consultant, again working under former Auckland Aces and Namibia Head Coach, Doug Watson.
First stop is The Netherlands where Scotland is playing a T20 warm-up tri-series with the hosts and Ireland in Voorburg over the coming week, before the T20 World Cup begins in early June.
CD's other connection with Scotland is Dundee-born Central Hind, PRIYANAZ CHATTERJI.
Chatterji is a longtime Scottish rep who, along with all her teammates, was overjoyed to succeed in qualifying Scotland Women for the women's T20 World Cup, after finishing in the top two with Sri Lanka at the recent ICC Qualifier tournament in the UAE.
Pocknall won't be the only CD Head Coach at the World Cup: Central Hinds Head Coach JACOB ORAM is also about to head to the Caribbean with the BLACKCAPS as New Zealand's bowling coach for the big tournament.
The two countries are in different Groups for the initial stages, Scotland having been pooled with Australia, England, Namibia and Oman; while the BLACKCAPS will be playing the West Indies, Afghanistan, Uganda and Papua New Guinea.
The top two teams from each of the four Groups will progress to the Super Eights, before the semi-finalists and finalists are eventually found towards the end of June.
Cricket Scotland Head of Performance, Steve Snell said he expected conditions in the Caribbean to be challenging, and the experience of the wider coaching group would be invaluable to the players.
"I’m extremely pleased to have secured someone of Glenn’s experience to work with us on a short-term basis," said Snell.
"He has recent knowledge of many of the squad, and brings a huge amount of quality and expertise to the group during the next few weeks.
"We also greatly appreciate the collaboration with Central Districts in allowing Glenn to join us for this short period."
