HINDS TRIO TO PLAY PAKISTAN

With Pakistan Women about to touch down in New Zealand to play six international matches against the WHITE FERNS, NZC has selected a New Zealand XI squad to play a warm-up T20 and warm-up one-dayers against the visitors in Lincoln in early December.

CENTRAL HINDS representatives ROSEMARY MAIR, OCEAN BARTLETT and FLORA DEVONSHIRE have all been named in a strong New Zealand XI, which is a selection of available Domestic players as opposed to a New Zealand A team.

The team will play a one-dayer against Pakistan on Bert Sutcliffe Oval next week from 11am on Tuesday, 28 November followed by a T20 starting at 11am on Thursday 30 November, with both matches livestreamed for free on NZC YouTube.

NZC High Performance coach and former WHITE FERN and CENTRAL HIND SARA MCGLASHAN will coach the side, having led both the New Zealand Development squad’s tour to India and the New Zealand Under 19 Women’s World Cup campaigns over the last year.

McGlashan said the NZXI squad had been selected with an eye to continuing the progression of New Zealand’s best young female players, and rewarded Domestic performances in a mix of WHITE FERNS and emerging talent.

“These matches are a really important step in our pathway and give us a unique opportunity to involve players who are on the radar from a long-term succession point of view," said McGlashan.

The WHITE FERNS suqad is yet to be announced with the full international matches to take place in Dunedin, Queenstown and Christchurch, all live on TVNZ+ and SENZ - see the schedule here.

The Hind are next in action this weekend in Auckland, in a top-of-the-table Hallyburton Johnstone Shield clash with the Auckland Hearts on both Saturday and Sunday at Kennards Hire Community Oval.

Early next year, the first Aotearoa Māori Women’s cricket team is set to be selected by NZC to contest the new Pacific Cup tournament in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland in January.

The team will be coached by former WHITE FERNS captain Maia Lewis (Ngāti Whātua, Ngāti Māniapoto) as the next step following the establishment of NZC’s Aotearoa Māori Secondary Schools programme and the recent Wāhine Māori National Tournament held in Hastings and won by Central Districts Māori.

“We saw plenty of talent on display at the Wāhine Māori Nationals and I’m excited to get the squad together in January and connect, not only through cricket but through culture and hauora," sais Lewis.

“We are creating a legacy and a pathway for Māori wāhine cricketers for the future.“

The Cook Islands, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and Vanuatu, as well as a new Aotearoa Māori women's team will play through pool play to qualify for a livestreamed Grand Final on Sunday, January 21, on Eden Park’s Kennards Hire Community Oval.

The 2024 Pacific Cup will also represent an opportunity for nations to build capability around cricket - with coach, umpire, and player development sessions planned for attendees.
