DOUG BRACEWELL PAKISTAN BOUND

Class allrounder DOUG BRACEWELL has become the second CENTRAL STAG to be called into the BLACKCAPS ODI squads for Pakistan and India as a squad replacement, jumping on a plane to join BLAIR TICKNER in Karachi for a Series that begins today at 2.30pm NZT.

Bracewell has been in superb touch with both bat and ball in all formats this summer for the Stags and replaces Canterbury's Matt Henry who suffered an abdominal strain on the final day of the drawn second Test in Karachi a couple of days ago, with the injury requiring two to four weeks of rest and rehabilitation.

Bracewell has 68 international caps to his name and most recently featured in the BLACKCAPS' home ODI series against The Netherlands last April.

The 32-year-old has been one of the leading wicket takers in the Plunket Shield and has made key contributions with the bat for the Stags in both The Ford Trophy and Dream11 Super Smash.

BLACKCAPS coach Gary Stead said Bracewell would touch down in Karachi on Wednesday local time to join the national team as he once again joins his cousin Michael Bracewell in a BLACKCAPS squad.

“Doug is a quality bowler with a lot of experience and we feel his skills best compliment the bowling mix we already have in the squads for Pakistan and India,” said Stead.

“He has experience across all three formats at international level; has experience in the subcontinent; and has already shown his range of skills this season.”

Stead expressed sympathy for Henry picking up the injury on the final day of a hard fought Test in Karachi.

“Matt has been one of the leaders of our ODI attack for a number of years and I know he’s disappointed to be missing out because of injury.

“With an important home Series coming up, it’s vital he has time to recover properly over the coming weeks.”

Otago Volts bowler Jacob Duffy was set to replace Tim Southee in the ODI Squad in India, but was unavailable to travel earlier as a replacement for Henry as Duffy is recovering from COVID-19.

Auckland Aces bowler Kyle Jamieson (back) and Wellington Firebirds bowlers Adam Milne (side) and Ben Sears (back) were also unavailable for selection as they continue to recover from or manage injuries.

After the imminent ODI Series in Pakistan, the ODI Series against India starts on Wednesday January 18 in Hyderabad.
