Central Hinds Alumna Liz Green (née Perry) has been appointed as New Zealand Cricket’s Head of Women’s High Performance.
Green represented the Central Hinds as cap number 94 at the outset of her cricket career, playing 21 matches for Central as an allrounder from 2002/03 to 2004/05 – before carrying on to a long career with Wellington Blaze, which she captained, and representing the WHITE FERNS from 2010 to 2016/17. Green also represented hockey's Black Sticks from 2007 to 2010.
Green's most recent role at Cricket Wellington was as General Manager, and she starts the newly created position at NZC this week, charged with growing the female high performance space off the back of the new women’s Master Agreement between NZC, the NZCPA and six Master Associations.
The wife of current WHITE FERNS representative Maddy Green said she was thrilled to be joining New Zealand Cricket during an exciting time for the women’s game.
“This is an incredible opportunity and I can’t wait to get started,” said Green. “The new women’s master agreement signalled New Zealand Cricket’s intent to grow its investment in the women’s game, and with that comes the opportunity to develop our best players on the world stage.
“At the highest level we want our WHITE FERNS competing to win major world events, which means we need a high-performance structure that is consistently producing capable players.
“As a former player and current administrator, I’ve seen how far the women’s game in New Zealand has come – and I’m excited to be helping to build a female high performance programme that can bring sustained success.”
NZC chief executive David White was delighted with Green’s appointment.
“Liz has great experience as a professional athlete, both as a WHITE FERN and as a Black Stick, and with that comes an excellent understanding of the high-performance landscape,” said White.
“Additionally, her administrative experience with Cricket Wellington means she’s very familiar with the New Zealand cricket environment, which sets her up nicely for this role.”
New Zealand Cricket GM High Performance Bryan Stronach said Green was a great asset for the women’s game.
“Liz brings us an invaluable mix of Major Association and international cricket experience – she really does have the ideal skill-set,” said Stronach.
“The relationships she’s forged throughout New Zealand sport gives her real insights into this area and means she’ll be able to hit the ground running.”
